Remove password from PDF

Most places that remove a PDF password need you to hand over both the file and the password, since that is how they do the decrypting. Here neither one leaves this tab at any point; the browser itself is what stops that, which holds regardless of what the page happens to say.

How it works

  1. Choose the protected PDF.
  2. Type the password it already has.
  3. Remove it, then save the file with no password on it.

Questions

Do I need to know the password to remove it?

Yes. Removing a password from a PDF you cannot open is not something a browser can do; typing the password is what proves you are allowed to take it off.

Does the file lose anything besides the password?

The pages come out exactly as they were. What does not carry over is anything outside the pages themselves, such as bookmarks or fillable form data, the same trade-off the merge and split tools already make.

Is this different from just typing the password into a reader?

A reader that opens a protected file still leaves the password sitting on it. This tool actually removes the lock, so the saved file opens for anyone afterwards, no password needed.
